lions highlight videos 2008

December 14, 2008 by zharrod

Ahoj! (Hello!) Well, we had our Lions Party last night and the two highlight videos I did quick for the team were shown, so now I can put them on the world wide web! Here you go! The first two are the senior highlight video, with the English version first and then the Czech version. The third video is the junior team video. It is also official and was announced to the team, and people at the party, that I will be the head coach of the junior team next year! Big… Keep the prayers coming for this! Thanks for stopping by today!

eclectic/old school style and me…

December 14, 2008 by zharrod

This a completely random post, but I thought it would be fun. So here is a confession, over the past couple of years I feel that my true self has come out more and more. There was a moment, somewhere in high school, where I thought, “I’m the head football coach’s son, the captain of the football team and etc…..” When I thought that, I began making subconsciousness decisions to become someone I wasn’t. That someone was the all-American, clean-cut, golden boy who was what everyone else wanted him to be, so to speak. With that said, since I first moved to Europe, and I guess right before too, I’ve been on a rediscovery of ‘who is Zach Harrod.’ It’s been cool, because this isn’t merely evident, nor dictated, by my style or the things I choose to wear, but it is a reflection of it, to a degree. As I what I choose to wear is a reflection, of sorts, of my true self, I’ve seen that I’ve grown more and more comfortable in my own flesh and who I am in Christ. Which then leads to the out-workings of this in what I wear, watch, listen to, say, read and etc. So this is a circle of sorts, but the circle originates in me truly discovering who I’ve been made to be and not what I think others want me to be. It has been a fun adventure of rediscovery and I love feeling like I’m me and not some vanilla version of me.

Anyway, I’ve mentioned before, that I’ve been enjoying checking out the ART OF MANLINESS blog over the last month or so, and one of the posts that was entertaining was 10 Outdated Men’s Fashions That Still Have The Charm. The reason being because I love to combine old-school with contemporary and it usually leads to a bit of ‘eclecticness’, which I’m finding is very much part of me. As I read it and looked at the pictures I realized something! I want a cool pair of knickers!

I’m a fan. (btw click on the pic to see the actual pic) I’m also a fan of the hat he is rocking in the pic, and am intrigued by the guy who makes this particular hat. So I tried to find some ‘knickers’ in the same vein yesterday, well I learned that I shouldn’t do google searches for ‘knickers!’ It was more than a bit suspect! So if you know of any place where I can peruse a selection of knickers like you see above, hook a brother up with some info! Um yeah, I just thought I’d share a little randomness, or ‘eclecticness’ I guess, with you this Sunday afternoon. Here is a little bit of me that my good friend Mark Stewart captured as of late. Check out his pics, he’s a stud!

Well, have a blessed Sunday!

i need your help…

December 11, 2008 by zharrod

Alright, I really need your help! So please, please use the response feature on my blog after you read this and let me know what you think and help me out with some ideas! So I’ve told you before about the Czech Project and us having it here this summer, and we are thinking through curriculum, recruiting, and etc. One of the things on my plate is a 30 second video spot that we will use on youtube, facebook and the web to get people thinking and praying about it. So here is where I need your help, I don’t know what to wrap the video around, themes, how to get people excited and etc. Will you help me? Here are some questions:

  1. What themes related to an international summer missions trip would get you to consider coming?
  2. What makes your heart beat?
  3. What images, sounds, sights would get you thinking and praying about it?
  4. Flat out, do you have any ideas for me?

Remember it’s only a 30 second piece, but my [our] hope is that it will be something that grabs people and can be a good ‘get to the site and start praying about spending a month here’ type of video. Thanks in advance for your help! I’ll be shooting it and editing it after Christmas. Be a Revolution!

“happy clappy” – agree or disagree?

December 10, 2008 by zharrod

This fall I was talking about the depth of Christianity in comparison to what I see with modern Christianity sometimes that might be described as a certain amount of superficiality with a friend. I know ‘superficial’ is a strong word, but hear me out. When I open the Bible I see beautiful depth and what could even be described as beautiful paradoxes, but when I look at what would be called contemporary Christianity, the word that comes to mind is superficial or even something like placing the life of a Christian or God in neat and tidy box of sorts. Then I ask myself, “Is it this neat? This tidy? Because it would appear not to be both played out in the Bible and also played out in life in the midst of a sin wrecked world!” I have to confess, that I certainly add to this and by no means would I ever say I’m innocent of increasing the superficiality of Christianity, but it is things like this that rack my mind. I know, I know… Maybe I should direct all this pondering to something more worthwhile, but that is the point – it is worthwhile! Because my [our] faith should be all encompassing! So anyway… back to my friend. He told me that I should listen to a radio show from the guys over at White Horse Inn, entitled “Happy Clappy Worship.” He then went on to explain it to me, I was intrigued, but not intrigued enough to run home and find it on the net, but yesterday I did. So I’m wondering, what do you think? Give each of the 4 segments a listen and let me know. Agree or disagree? Before listening please take a deep breath and relax. I’m a little “iffy” if I should post this, but I’ve been thinking about things like this for awhile now, and not just in response to worship but all of Christianity, and I’d love to hear what you think about it too! It doesn’t matter whether you agree with me or not, I’d love to hear what you think and then still be friends on the other end! 😉

a swift kick…

December 9, 2008 by zharrod

So it’s no secret that I love what I do now, with AIA, but it’s also no secret that I want to plant some churches that plant churches that plant churches that plant churches and so on… I think you get the point. With that said, I live in the tension of now and the dream. Some days it’s tough, other days it isn’t, but I do my best to try to live and make the most of the now with having a eye on the future (I would argue with you that the church planting process, for me, has begun. It began when God got me here September 4, 2007)! Having an eye on the future includes reading, following blogs that will challenge me and keep me sharp, following and praying for friends who are planting churches, and much more. Two of the places on the web that always challenge me are 1) theresurgence.com and 2) Acts 29 Church planting Network. So here is what was swift kick to the gut today… 20 Characteristics of a Church Planter. For some of you other hopeful church planters, or current planters, out there, that I know are some of my most faithful readers, how you doing? I’m thankful for the Spirit of God is at work in me [us] and is producing this, because if it were up to me, I’d get a big F!

20 Characteristics of a Church Planter

    1. Am I a Christian? (John 3:16)
    2. Am I passionately in love with Jesus, and is He the Lord of every area of my life? (Personal spiritual dynamics is the second most important area.)
    3. Do I believe His word, and does it affect my life deeply?
    4. Am I Spirit-filled, Spirit-directed, Spirit-led, and Spirit-controlled? (Acts 1:8)
    5. Am I qualified as an Elder? (1 Timothy, Titus)
    6. Do I love the local church as the expression of a gospel community on mission? (Matthew 28:18-20)
    7. Am I a missionary to the city? Am I sent for the advancement of the gospel in the city? (John 20:21)
    8. Do I have a clear vision for this new work? (Nehemiah 1:3-4; 2:11-18)
    9. Am I willing to pour myself out in obedience to the vision? (Phil. 2, Romans 6)
    10. Am I healthy—physically, emotionally, financially, spiritually, relationally, maritally?
    11. Am I the kind of leader many people will follow? Have I served as a church leader successfully? (1 Tim. 5:22; 3:6)
    12. Can I preach effectively?
    13. Can I guard the doctrinal door with Biblical clarity and tenacious confidence?
    14. Can I architect a new work with entrepreneurial skill?
    15. Am I called to plant a church at this time and in this place? (Acts 17:26; 1 Peter 5:2)
    16. Have my church leaders commended me for this calling? (Acts 11:22-26; 13:1-4; 16:1-2)
    17. Am I a hard worker? Am I persevering? (2 Thes. 3:10; 1 Tim. 5:17-18; 2 Tim. 2:3-6)
    18. Am I adaptable to new people, places, and concepts?
    19. Can I raise the funds necessary for my family’s needs? (1 Tim. 5:8)
    20. Am I humble enough to learn from others—particularly those who have gone ahead of me in different areas?

apologia for the city

December 9, 2008 by zharrod

Recently, I just put up my most recent sermon preached at Faith Community Church here in Prague. We have been working through 1 Peter for the last couple months and my stud of a pastor, Phil, gave me a couple sermons! It is a blessing to have an avenue to continue to work on and grow in one of my giftings. Thanks Phil. Anyway, you can click on the podcast logo above or the podcast dude below to subscribe to my podcasts (or you can click here to listen/watch the content online), which consist of the zhtvs you see here on the blog and also little bonuses from time to time. Plus who wouldn’t want to take zach harrod around in their iPod? Haha… That could have sounded really arrogant or very odd. Well, enjoy the talk and have a great Tuesday.

evening procrastination or inspiration?

December 8, 2008 by zharrod

The answer to that, I’m not quite sure. Probably both. While I was uploading my last zhtv episode, I started clicking and this is one of the videos I loved! I’m warning you though, it will give you a serious itch to get a passport and get the heck out of your country!
