Tomorrow morning I’m heading out of town on a jet plane to Nerja, Spain! And I can’t wait! Every year Campus Crusade for Christ has a Midyear conference for STINTers (Short Term International Interns) and long-term staff members who are serving throughout Europe. I haven’t attended this in the past, but this year it couldn’t come at a better time. I’ve been going hard for some time now and I need some space to catch my breath, to pray and to process much going on in ministry and also in life. It will also be great, being around those who are serving throughout Europe. Would you please pray that the Lord would meet me in a special way over this next week! Thanks for the prayers and thank you for being you!

36 hours in Prague…
Last week, my boy, Lisi, sent me a link for an article from the Times, entitled 36 hours in Prague, and asked, “Is this accurate?” Lisi, the easy answer, “Yes.” I can’t attest to knowing and/or doing everything, or knowing every restaurant, that the author of this article suggested but I would say that it is a very common write up on the city, I love and call home. I especially like that they included a section called, Art Town,
It might not yet rival Venice, but Prague has several new museums, galleries and biennales that have started to position it as a serious forum for modern art. One of the biggest is the Dox Center for Contemporary Art (Osadni 34; 420-224-930-927; www.doxprague.org), which opened more than 30,000 square feet of exhibition space last fall. It has a show opening on June 4 that will include an extensive exhibition from the Scottish artist Douglas Gordon. A more intimate space, the three-year-old Hunt Kastner Artworks (Kamenicka 22; 420-233-376-259; www.huntkastner.com) is a single-room gallery. Running through June 6 is an exhibition featuring photographs and installations from the young Czech artist Jiri Thyn.
This city has so much more to offer than the average tourist ever takes advantage of, i.e. like what I included above. So I love reading write ups like this, that include more than just the normal tourist things. Anyone planning on doing a 36 hour trip to Prague in the near future? I would recommend spending a bit more than 36 hours in this place, it deserves more than a mere 36 hours!
the hills were alive?
Welcome back to zACHhARROD.com! Sorry for my silence this past week. I had a short week, so I attempted to pack a full week into three days. With that said, it was a little quite around these parts, but no fear you can always follow me on twitter and I also have a whole bunch of new pics for you to check out over at my flickr page – click here or on the pics to the right!
One the things I love about living here, is that I can travel for relatively cheap! On top of that, I live in the middle of Europe, which means there is a lot at my finger tips within a few hour train ride. For example, Cesky Krumlov or Salzburg! Both of these cities have a magicalness to them that was so, so, so good for my soul. I got a good mix of sight seeing and processing/prayer/reading time. Thank you for your prayers, that I requested in a previous post. So here is a photo recap of my fav pics, mixed with some others to give you a run down of my quick holiday.
After hoping on the train and heading south, my first stop was in Cesky Krumlov, in South Bohemia, for one night. As I spent about 20 hours there, I realized once again, that I could always spend more time in this city. I was excited to be there for the Kouzelny Krumlov (Magical Krumlov) Festival, which consisted of many traditional Czech customs. So fun.
Maj Dej (May Day) in Krumlov.
Loved crashing at the Krumlov House. If you are heading to Krumlov you need to crash here. This was my room and the view from my window!
Next stop! Salzburg, Austria. Which is a mix of Lord of the Rings and Disney world. I loved wandering the streets and then catch a few of Hohensalzburg fortress with the Alps in the background! So cool.
Salzburg is also the birthplace of Mozart and you can’t escape him nor his image! Hundreds of years after his death, he has become the icon of this city! Sadly, I didn’t get to check out a classical music concert. I guess I’ll have to make a trip back!
I was also very blessed to get some great time with my dear friend, Jason McFarland, for a bit as he came down for a short holiday as well. It was even more special, because this dear friend is, sadly, leaving Prague in now less than a month. So getting some time to chat and hang was great. We headed into the Alps and checked out the World’s Largest Ice Cave – Eisriesenwelt Ice Caves.
Three Zachs! I know a scary thought. While I was away, I took much time to play with my camera (thanks Mom, Dad, Wayne, Jo and Amber for helping me out with it! You guys rock!) and here is one my experiments.
I think this may be my favorite pic from the whole time. I was blessed to catch the clouds, sun, mountains and etc. at the right moment. It was good for me to get up in the Alps, even if it was just for a few hours. Oh Mountains. I love you Mountains.
Well there you have it. I quick run down of my few days away. It was a huge blessing to get away and very, very refreshing!
my travel companions…
…for the long weekend.
Here we go on a quick rundown, counter clockwise from the tope:
- Book that I’ve wanted to read for sometime – How the Irish Saved Civilization
- iPod Touch – Loaded with music, not movies, only music and the ‘soundtrack’ of my weekend!
- passport
- ESV Bible
- Water free hand sanitizer – say no to the swine flu!
- tissues
- Lonely Planet Austria Travel book
- Death By Love by Mark Driscoll
- My new Nikon D90, Christmas present, that I will snap hundreds of pics and even do some future zhtvs? I’m also taking the manual, I just need to get over my “I don’t want to read the manualness.”
So clutch… What are your ‘normal’ travel companions? Ok, I’m out the door! Have a great weekend! I will be on Twitter, so you can follow things there as I experience life and God over this weekend! Be a revolution!
the hills are alive?
Um…..? I don’t think I will be joining Maria (Don’t know what I’m talking about it’s called Sound of Music, you might have heard of it?!;-)) singing and spinning in the hills, but I’m gearing up to get some much needed time away! It’s been a long past few months and I’ve been going hard without getting much time to catch up. So tomorrow at 14:14 (2:14 p.m.) I will be hoping on a train to head towards my favorite Czech city, outside of Prague, Cesky Krumlov, and then to Salzburg, Austria for 3 nights! I’m going to be traveling solo for the majority of it, but I just found out that one of my best friends, Jason McFarland, here in Prague just decided that he would head down on Saturday. So it should be a good mix of some solo time and some time with a good, good friend.
I would ask that you that you please pray for me as I’m going. Not just that I would get some much needed physical rest, but something more. I’ve been asking God, and myself, some tough questions about life, ministry, my character, my leadership and more over the last few months, so my heart in this holiday is also to have God meet me in the midst of this. I don’t know that He will give me concrete answers, but I’m praying that He would meet me, change me, bring repentance where needed, encourage me, refresh me, give me some directions in some areas of life/ministry and lastly that I would love Him, others, and this city, Prague, more!
Thanks for being you! Here’s a little map to help you see where I’ll be over the next few days!
