I’ve caught lots of grief from friends, both in Prague and in the States, about my twitter (Don’t know what Twitter is? Where have you been living? Sorry for the sarcasm, here’s an explanation.) habit over the last year or so. It’s actually been pretty entertaining at times. I’ve been “defrieneded” [...]

I love my job. On the good days & not so good days. Now if I could only remember this on the not so good days! #fb 2 days ago

new pics posted…

Posted By zharrod on December 19th, 2009

I’ve mentioned before how I love to create, how I really valuing creating and how I love creatives in general (see here) and one of those expressions has been photography. This is even more true now that I have a real camera (Boom D90!), thanks Mom, Dad and a friend who helped out as well! I’ve loved learning and I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m a hack! But I love it nonetheless! I have some friends (Mark and Amber specifically) who really inspire me to learn what I’m doing a capture images that will move people in some way. With that said, I’ve posted a bunch of new pics over at flickr. It’s really hard for me no to post more pics, but I try to limit it to the ones I like the most. I thought I would share a few of those here on my blog. Each of the pics is in a set over at flickr, so if you like to see more click away!

sometimes i wonder…

Posted By zharrod on May 11th, 2009

…”what if? What if I were do this? What if I chose to do that? What if? What if? What if?” Welcome to my mind.

Saturday night after a gmail chat date with the lovely Rachel Baer (Yes she now has a blog! Click on her name and meet this amazing women via the blog world. We will see if she gets hooked now!;-)) I got bouncing around on the web. Which meant I went to bed way latter than desired, and I couldn’t sleep past 8 this morning! What’s the deal? Is this because I’m getting older? Anyway…..

I clicked on the link from a friend’s gmail status (Andy Wojtowski) and watched this…

As I watched this several times, I had a “What If” moment! Now don’t get me wrong I LOVE WHAT I DO! LOVE IT! But there are moments where I have inclinations to pursue things like shooting films, dropping rhymes, snapping pics, designing, writing and a ton of other creative things for a living. I do love that my job allows me to do some of these things, well not dropping rhymes or being part of that, but a boy can dream right?

So I thought I would share that thought and video with you, because I loved it…

I do have question for you - WHAT GIG (job) DO YOU WONDER ABOUT DOING IF YOU DIDN’T DO WHAT YOU DO?

DISCLAIMER: Just because I post a video, link, or etc. does not mean I endorse everything the person thinks, sings about or etc. I just thought I would add that. I would hope that those of us that read my blog, that say we are “Christ followers” would look for “God sightings” all around us - in nature, in people and in pop-culture and, thus, look for ways to point that out and work for redemption! I saw a spark of God’s creative impulse as I watched Nyle’s vid. Thanks for stopping by!

a little more web procrastination

Posted By zharrod on March 28th, 2009

So I wanted to get a real post up today, but it didn’t happen. Wah, wah… BUT Check out my flickr site, because I put some pics up from a coworkers’/friends’ hockey game from a few weeks ago, and pics from the half marathon today. I love the new camera my parent’s and a friend hooked me up with back in at Christmas. (Thanks again guys!)Enjoy the pics and these two videos, one that is just beautifully creative and the other that is outrageously/very cool creative.

pics from our conference

Posted By zharrod on February 8th, 2009

While we were up in the KrkonoÅ¡e mountains for our Novy Zivot Conference, I snapped a few pics from the few days on my new camera, and Christmas present, and I wanted to share them with you! Click HERE for the set or click HERE to view all my pics. I don’t know if you know this, but at the bottom of my site is something that looks like this…

…if you click on it, it will take you to my flickr page, where my pics live. So, if you feel inclined, check that from time to time. Here are some of my favorites from the week.

As you can see, there was a fog laying over the mountains most of the time we were there, which definitely led to some haunting pics of the mountains, the nearby church and anything outside. I was intrigued by the church that was near the hotel we stayed in - read the history of the Protestant church in Upper Herlíkovice here. The history was interesting and as my director’s director, Jim Hynds, sat in the church steeple, prayed, and just shared thoughts, I couldn’t get past the paradox this country and the long history! Here we were in what was orginally a German church, that was taken by Czechs and much more. I sat there thinking about my German dissent and my love for this country - which at times makes me scratch my head, but I’m thankful for it either way! Moreover, it led me to pray with a yearning and anticipation for this country and the whole of Europe like never before. Thanks for stopping by today!

not creative?

Posted By zharrod on January 28th, 2009

In the midst, of all of my talk about “creating” and “creativity,” this morning I stopped by Seth Godin’s blog and enjoyed his thoughts about being creative or not creative in a post, entitled, Creativity and stretching the sweatshirt. Good stuff. But let’s be honest, when Seth blogs, it’s usually good! Here is a portion of the short post, read the rest if you feel so inclined too!

1. If you want to be creative, understand that you’ll need to get to the edges, even if the edges have moved. Being creative means immediately going to the place the last person left off.

2. If you are “not creative,” if you are the sort of person that gets uncomfortable being creative or has been persuaded you’re not capable, don’t worry about it. Just stretch the sweatshirt in your spare time, watch the creative things other people have done, keep up with the state of the art. Then, when you do your “not creative” thing, most people will think it’s pretty creative indeed.

It would seem the question is either, “Do you need to get to the edges?” or “Do you need to stretch that shirt your wearing?” Hmmmm…

inspiration…

Posted By zharrod on January 27th, 2009

I have a deadline! Don’t we love deadlines? Maybe we (I) don’t but they are very real! So you can see below that I’ve been doing some creating! It’s been fun, but I wish I had not procrastinated on the front end, so I could enjoy it all a bit more! But seriously I really have enjoyed this. I LOVE CREATING! STAY TUNED FOR THE FULL PROMO VIDEO! I think I will upload it in the morning because it’s exporting now, and it’s at 40% and had two hours left. Anyway, in the midst of trying to keep the HD format and figure what how it works with vimeo, I stumbled (that’s the word I like to use) upon some videos that make me want to create more! Here you go! Enjoy 4 videos, that I loved, I hope you love them too!

late night procrastination…

Posted By zharrod on January 20th, 2009

Oh my… So I am somewhat the media department for AIA||Czech Republic and that has meant that I’ve slowly acquired the tools to create quality pieces for us, as well as ways to express myself creatively, and much more. During my trip back to the States, I acquired another couple of pieces to add to those tools and I’m stoked to use them. I’m currently working on conceptualizing, shooting and editing a promo for the Czech Project, but in doing so I’m trying to learn how to use these tools while I’m in the process of creating. I’m thankful for the world we now live in that allows me to find and consume information and etc. so quickly but it could also lead to hours of sitting and “learning” (let’s just call it that, it makes me feel better, but in reality it’s procrastinating a little, I guess!). In that I stumbled upon the videos of a guy, named Ugurcan Kara, on vimeo and I love what he is doing! He is using something called the “Magic Bullet Look,” which I’m trying to figure out how to join in this look, but do it under a budget. Anyway, I wanted to share two of his videos that have served as inspiration and procrastination at the same time for me! I really want to do some projects like these, just beautiful work! Enjoy!
