are you zach?

September 25, 2008 by zharrod

Every Thursday at noon I meet my pastor, whom I call Philly D to the double D (it’s his hip-hop name), at St. Bucks for mentoring and sharping; well today while we were talking about life, ministry and etc. I was asked by a stranger, “Are you Zach from the YouTube videos?” I said yes and began to turn red, as this stranger said, “I work at the Malostranska Starbucks and saw your video about us on your blog, it’s really cool, I like them.”. Thanks! I didn’t know how to respond but needless to say it made me laugh and I also realized I have more people on this site than I could even begin to imagine. Which is cool and scary too. So here is to all of you out there in zACHhARROD.com land whom I don’t know! Thanks for reading and stopping by! This has made me want to write more and get more zhtv’s online! We will see what I can do about that. I’ll post that St. Bucks zhtv video later when I have more than my iPod to write on. Okay I’m off to my daily spanking, a.k.a. my Czech lesson!

Here’s that video:

Here is a picture Phil took of me today at St. Bucks. This is phonetically how Czechs spell my name, Z-A-C-H, I guess! It’s fun!

i survived…

July 26, 2008 by zharrod

So I am comfortably sitting at my desk back in Prague after a long week of driving (over 900 kms!) and connecting with some great people! It was a full week and I’m wishing I could have had more time to connect with the Czech Christians, Dutch, and the camp goers at each of the 6 camps spread throughout the country. I was taken back by two things this week – the spiritual apathy of this country and the faithfulness of the little churches spread throughout the country. It made me a bit anxious to get to where I think God is calling me eventually here, but I was also reminded, over and over, that God is indeed Sovereign and I am where He wants me right now. Well, I will get a new zhtv up more about the trip, but I wanted to share some of my favorite images with you. I haven’t had any time to do any post-work on them, but I thought I’d share them anyway. I hope you enjoy them! (since my page isn’t back to normal and you can’t find the flickr link, click on one of the pics and it will take you to my flickr site, or just click HERE)

I pinched myself several times, marveling at what I do and the place I live. God is so good. Thank you for each of you dear ministry partners who support me financially and/or through prayer! You, through are partnership, brought encouragement to 6 churches in what may be the most atheistic country on the face of the planet! Thank you! That is a revolution.

’07 in review, and anticipation for ’08

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Did Christmas and New Years sneak up on you? It did sneak up on me! During this break from school I relaxed quite a bit and the whole break I was taken back at where my year went and how fast the Holidays came upon me. People have told me the older you get the more often this happens. I still see myself as a young man (Despite my friends who give me a hard time for coming up on 30!), so as I wrestle with this phenomenon I struggle because I don’t want to merely live through, or just merely survive, each day and at one point look back with regret that I missed so much. As of late
this seems to be a lingering fear in my mind. I ask myself and God, “I’m only 27, should I really be thinking this now?” Part of me says, “No,” and part of me says, “Praise God!” Praise God for this breakthrough now on this side of so much, Lord-willing, yet to come in my life.

With that said, I was journaling and spending time with the Lord in my favorite cafe, Kafičku, in Prague and I felt very reflective on the year of 2007. I wrote in my journal;

“This might have been the biggest year of my short 27 years thus far. Big life decisions. Big life transitions. And so much more God. Could this be the biggest year yet?”

I would say YES. Bigger than leaving for college. Bigger than graduating college. Bigger than moving to Europe for 18 months. Bigger. Biggest yet. So much has happened in the last year. I’ve seen evidence of God in so many ways in the last year. I’ve been challenged to continue to grow up this past year in ways that I expected and didn’t expect. All in all it was a great year. As I reflect on the goodness of God and the fullness of 2007, I wonder what 2008 will bring. There is so much ahead of me. Many things, “life landmarks” if you will, that I have yet to pass over the threshold of and that is crazy to me! Thus I look ahead with great anticipation to ’08. What will God bring? What beautiful story has the Divine Playwright written that I will walk into, today, tomorrow, next month, this summer and so on? May God bless our 2008s and may they be a beautiful reflection of Him at work in our lives and the world!

So as I look back and reflect on 2007 and God’s work, I thought it would be fun to do a Year in Review here at zACHhARROD.com, enjoy…

For most of you in America this will be up a bit early, but it is 11:30 pm here and I need to go to bed soon because either Santa or Jezisek will be coming soon. 😉 Here is a zhtv Christmas Greeting for all of you faithful readers, ministry partners, prayer warriors and/or blog stalkers! I’m a bit all over the place in this one, but it’s fun. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

comfort food

September 29, 2007 by zharrod

I love living in Europe and there isn’t much I miss in the states, besides family and friends that is, but there are moments when “comfort food” is great! In the box my parents sent me there was Aunt Jemima pancake mix, Hungry Jack Syrup (in the microwaveable bottle), and much more… So yesterday was a holiday here in Czech so I slept in and then made pancakes and Starbucks’ coffee for my roommate and I. It was great! I’ve been getting some emails asking for my address here in Prague, so if you feel led to send any sort of “comfort food” to me, here you go:

Due to unwanted visitors my address has been removed, feel free to email me to touch base with me. Thank you.

Okay, I really need to study! Be a Revolution this Weekend!

my blog is boring…

September 29, 2007 by zharrod

Last night I was informed by a friend and co-worker that “MY BLOG IS BORING.” Wow! She was/is right! I have been disappointed that I haven’t been able to blog more about my first month back in Prague and about life in general. But when you don’t have internet and you feel like you’re kicking hard to just keep your head above water while you are studying one of the hardest languages in the world you have to make some decisions. As you have seen one of those decisions that I have made is to blog less until I get settled and get the net in my flat. On that note, this Thursday we should have the net rocking in the flat! Praise God! I am also closer to getting settled. (Please continue to pray for my shipping problem. Right now, it looks like I will have to pay the invoice that is higher than I was quoted. More out of the preservation of my stuff. Please continue to pray.) My roommate, Matt (a.k.a. Earnie), and I did another Ikea run. I hope that is the last one for quite sometime. I actually like going to Ikea, but what I don’t like is that it takes a whole afternoon to accomplish the deal. I have no car, so that means I have to take public and it takes an hour to get there via public. I hope to have another ZHTV episode up soon with a new tour of the flat. It has been interesting getting furniture and stuff in the last 3 weeks or so. I have never had to buy “real” couches and etc. I guess its growing up. Last night, as Earnie and I were putting together more furniture he said, “With all this furniture you really must be thinking you will be here for awhile.” It was a strange moment for me. I am settling down in Prague in a HUGE way! Well… I have to study some Czech and work on a prayer I’m sharing at church tomorrow… Blessings this Saturday!
