So this entry tonight is me procrastinating! I’m sitting at a Panera Bread trying to finish an attribute study of God’s mercy for the Doctrine class I’m taking this week and next. So needless to say I need to get to my homework and not be blogging, but I couldn’t resist! I’ve averaged around 6-7 hours/day of studying over the last 4 days as we are taking these two courses! It is good stuff! I’m loving it but I didn’t study this much in college! Granted these are master’s courses!
This week I got some sad news about one of my heroes, John Piper, up in the Twin Cities. Through some other staff guys I heard that he had be diagnosed with prostrate cancer and as I was eating my sandwich tonight I read the update on his website and I was blown away about how he spoke of having cancer. Here is a portion of the letter he wrote to his church:
So I am praying: “Lord, for your great glory, 1) don’t let me miss any of the sanctifying blessings that you have for me in this experience; 2) don’t let the people of Bethlehem miss any of the sanctifying blessings that you have for us in this; 3) grant that the surgery be successful in removing cancer and sparing important nerves; 4) grant that this light and momentary trial would work to spread a passion for you supremacy for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ; 5) may Noël and all close to me be given great peace—and all of this through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever, Amen.†I hope God will lead you to pray in a similar way.
May God grant you and I the same perspective as we face slight and momentary hardships!
